3 Ways To Ensure That Your Windows Look Great This Spring

Spring is a great time to clean up your windows and get them looking great. Here are three ways that you can ensure that your windows look great this spring and for the rest of the year.

#1 Clean The Frame

Many people only clean the window glass pane and consider that their window is clean. However, to really clean your windows, you need to be able to clean your entire window.

To start with, you need to clean the frame. Cleaning the frame is relatively simple. You should be able to wipe down and clean your window frames with a damp cloth or rag. Outside of your house, you may want to spray down the window frame with a garden hose, but not a pressure washer – that is generally too much pressure.

#2 Clean The Window Sill

The next thing that you need to clean is the window sill. This is space where your window opens up across the bottom. The window still is often one of the dirtiest parts of your window, as dust can accumulate there and water that gets into your window when it is open can accumulate here and make the area dirty.

Most window sills have open slits across the bottom that allows water to drain out of the window sills; these slits are also great for cleaning. Pour some hot water into the window sill and out the slits, just make sure that the slits are open first. This should wash out some of the dirt in your window sills. Then, clean the rest of the window sill by wiping it down with a rag or paper towel.

#3 Clean The Glass

Finally, it is time to clean the glass. You don't need to use a commercial window cleaner if you don't want to. You can create your own window cleaner by mixing one parts vinegar with four parts water as well as a few drops of dish soap into the mixture. Make sure that you are cleaning the glass when the sun is not hitting directly on the windows; direct sunlight can cause streaks on your window. Apply the cleaner and scrub your window with newspaper. Then, to keep the glass clean, apply a rain repellent solution, generally designed for your windshield, onto the glass. This will help keep your windows looking great for the long-term, which will also help save you time as well.
